The fact that we have a national day for passwords exposes how inadequate they are as a “key” to our data. I know I didn’t change all of my login passwords, I have too many! Username and Password logins have become an integral part of our daily lives. The issue is that they have also become a nuisance and a frustration. With the continuing rise in cyber crime, it has become the individual’s responsibility to keep their logins secure. For companies, it has become a concern and a liability. There seems to be no single answer, as the types of logins we have are so diverse with no standardization across platforms. This has led to Password Hell.

A search of “National Password Day 2018” …

… produced a long list of articles, with recommendations like “Identity theft is one of the world’s fastest growing crimes, but adding strong authentication to your password can prevent it. Whether you’re protecting your bank account, your email, or your social media, put the brakes on ID theft by layering up” – but not one in the top ten mentions eliminating passwords with new and better technology. Some companies even tweeted suggestions to use their brand name as a password you would remember (not a good idea!) Twitter had a breach announcement recently and suggets we all change our passwords.
